What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture
literally
means
‘needles
piercing,’
the
practice
of
inserting
very
fine
needles
into the
skin to
stimulate
specific
anatomic
points
in the
body
(acupuncture
points)
for
therapeutic
purposes.
Along
with
this
method
acupuncturists
also use
heat,
pressure,
friction,
suction
or
impulses
of
electromagnetic
energy
to
stimulate
the
points.
The
acupuncture
points
are
stimulated
to
balance
the
movement
of
energy (qi)
in the
body to
restore
health.
Acupuncture
is based
on the
theory
that the
body has
an
energy
force
running
through
it. This
energy
life
force is
known as
Qi and
is
responsible
for all
the
physical,
emotional,
intellectual
and
spiritual
functions
of your
body and
mind.
Therefore
your
health
is a
function
of your
qi. When
there is
a
imbalance,
blockage
or
interruption
of the
flow of
qi,
illness
may
occur.
Qi
travels
throughout
your
body by
the way
of
“meridians”,
which
are
energy
pathways.
Specific
acupuncture
points
along
these
meridians
are used
to
rebalance
and
unblock
your qi
so that
health
can be
maintained
and
restored.
Modern
research
has
confirmed
the
actions
and
connections
of many
of the
acupuncture
points
and
their
effects
in areas
of the
brain.
The
circulatory,
digestive,
neuromuscular
and
endocrine
systems,
among
others
are
regulated
by
acupuncture.
Acupunctures
stimulate
the
release
of
endorphins,
which
help
relieve
stress
and
pain.
What
does
acupuncture
treat?
Since
eastern
medicine
believes
most
illness
is
caused
by an
Imbalance
in the
body’s
energy,
we
believe
most
conditions
can be
treated
and/ or
find
significant
relief
from
acupuncture.
Although
well
know in
the US
for pain
relief,
acupuncture
is
effective
for a
wide
variety
of
problems.
It has
been
endorsed
by the
World
Health
Organization
(WHO)
and the
National
Institute
of
Health.
These
bodies
have
declared
acupuncture
as an
effective
treatment
for the
following
condition:
Addictions
Anxiety
