My
name is Peter Almas. I studied Massage Therapy at New York
of Health
Professions and graduated with my Associate degree in
Occupational Studies. I am candidate for the Masters
Degree in
Acupuncture, with a concentration in Acupuncture and
Herbology, at
The Pacific College of Oriental Medicine. I studied Yoga,
Tai Chi, Chi Gong,
Martial Arts, Eastern Nutrition and Western Nutrition at
both colleges.
I am also a certified First Degree Healer in Reiki.
Some of my clients have included Cancer patients, accident
victims and
those with spiritual deficiencies. I learned the fine art
of treating clients
with a variation of physical ailments, alleviating them of
pain, stress
and anxiety.
I
was born in Glen Cove, New York. I come from a family of
Western Medical
professionals working on the North Shore of Long Island.
This has given
me a great respect for Western Medicine. Since the age
of 13, I've had
a great interest in and have studied the Eastern Arts.
With my formal
education in Eastern and Western medicine I believe
that the
integration of both methods will be revolutionary in the
implementation
of preventative pathologies.
I
also have over ten years of training in multiple
modalities of Yoga including
Hatha, Ratha, Kundilini, Tantric and Bikram. My other
personal
interests are directed toward visual art, music, sports,
nutrition and
spiritual learning.
Being
a holistic healer, my intention is to create a safe,
nurturing environment
while providing quality care and instruction. This will
facilitate the
unfolding of the body, mind and spirit of my clients. My
straightforward,
yet compassionate style encourages the discovery of
each person's uniqueness as I guide them into experiences
of healing,
self-awareness and enlightenment.
• Swedish Massage $75/ hour
Swedish massage uses five styles of flowing strokes to massage. The five basic strokes are effleurage (sliding or gliding), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction and vibration. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain and joint stiffness. (The development of Swedish massage is credited to Per Henrik Ling, though the Dutch practitioner Johan Georg Mezger adopted the French names to denote the basic
strokes.)
• Shiatsu $100/ hour, $60/ half hour
Shiatsu (“shi” meaning finger and “atsu” meaning pressure) is an eastern therapy that uses pressure applied with thumbs, fingers and palms to the same energy points. Shiatsu is based on the holistic system of traditional Chinese medicine, where illness is thought to result from imbalances in the natural flow of energy, or chi through the body. Shiatsu therapists use finger and palm pressure to energetic pathways, called meridians to improve the flow of chi. A scientific explanation is thatshiatsu calms an overactive sympathetic nervous system, which improves circulation, relieves stiff muscles, and alleviates
stress.
• Amma Massage $90/ hour, $50/ half hour
In Chinese, am-ma means “push-pull.” The goal of Amma massage is to balance the flow of energy in the client’s body. Amma is known as the ancient ancestor of all the Asian hand-healing therapies that work to treat the energy system. The goal of the therapy is to remove any energy blocks found in the body and promote optimal health. Blocked energy paths are believed to be the cause of physical problems of the body, so the production of good energy flow is important for a healthy
life.

Reiki is
a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation
that also promotes healing. Through the use of this
technique, healing energy is transferred in the form of ki
through the palms. It is administered by "laying on
hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen
"life force energy" flows through us and is what
causes us to be alive. If one’s "life force
energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick
or stressed. If it is high, we are more capable of being
happy and healthy. Reiki is an effective treatment for
conditions like depression and anxiety.
•
Reflexology $100/
hour, $55/ half hour
Reflexology
(zone therapy) is based on the principle that there are
reflexes in the feet, hands, ears and their referral
areas, within zone related areas, which correspond to
every part, gland and organ of the body. A system of zones
and reflex areas reflect an image of the body on the feet
and hands. Through application of pressure on these areas,
Reflexology, without the use of oil or lotion, relieves
tension, improves circulation and helps promote proper
function of the related areas of the body.
